Accelerating technological innovation in the utility sector

Due to the COVID-19 situation, Digital Utilities 2020 will no longer include an in-person conference. It will be replaced with a digital-only conference on the same dates 19-20 March 2020, plus an in-person networking event at a date to be determined later in the year. Please stand by for more updates.

Conference Themes

The advance of digital technologies is happening at a breathtaking pace. Rapid cost declines in computer power, data storage and internet bandwidth, and improved connectivity, are fuelling the growing deployment of technologies such as sensors, mobile, advanced analytics, robotics, cloud computing, IoT, AI, and virtual and augmented reality.

Utilities trying to reinvent themselves as digital enterprises have found it hard to scale up from digital pilots, and research by the McKinsey Global Institute shows that most utilities have achieved only a moderate level of digitisation — well below that of other industries. Significant potential remains for utilities to digitise their assets further and deepen their digital engagement with customers.

A huge number of technology trials got underway in 2019, but moving beyond pilots and delivering transformation at scale is still a challenge for the industry. The transition to a digital utility is inevitable for all organisations who wish to thrive in the digital economy, which means utilities must be able to implement digital technologies as part of everyday business operations.

At Digital Utilities 2020, delegates will hear from the industry’s leaders – those making digital part of their DNA – and will gain new insights and practical advice on how to develop a digital transformation strategy that can be successfully embedded and scaled within their organisation.
